Djokovic caused the first upset by beating Federer in the Final of the Australian Open in January and went on to beat him a further twice in the season. Federer in fact is having his worst season for several years and for the first time the pack, that have been chasing him for the last three years, seem to have finally caught him up. Nadal is no doubt the King of Clay and has proven that he is also King of grass by winning Wimbledon as well this year. However he has yet to win a Grand Slam on a hard surface but has proven that he is capable by winning the Toronto Masters and the Olympic titles, in the last few weeks.

Others who will receive a high profile during the tournament, will be World Number five, Nikolai Davydenko. The Russian is a very exciting player who must be wondering why he was so unfortunate to be born at the same time as Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Nonetheless he is quite capable of surprising anyone and having been a semi-finalist twice here at the US Open, he cannot be ruled as a potential surprise Champion.
Other top seeds who should be considered are Roddick and Nalbandian. Andy Roddick won here in 2003 and he can rely on very vociferous home support, add that to his formidable serving power and he could well feature prominently. David Nalbandian is an enigma, on his day he produces fantastic tennis, so good that he has beaten Federer twice this season already. On the flip side he has exited several Tournaments in the early stages, much to the frustration of his fans. If the right Nalbandian shows up here then watch out - he is a very dangerous adversary.
