Roger Federer
For the first time in four years Roger Federer will not be favourite in the US Open Odds to win.
Reigning US Open Champion Roger Federer had stood imperiously at the head of the World Rankings, since the second of Feb 2004; an incredible total of 224 weeks. However he was finally deposed by his great rival Rafa Nadal earlier this month. This follows a disappointing year where he lost to Nadal in both finals of the French Open and at Wimbledon and he performed only with mediocrity in the two recent Masters Championships. Apart from his sudden slide Federer has amassed 12 Grand Slam Titles, including the US Open, which he has won for the last four years and he is second favourite in the US Open Betting to win again this time. One of the many records he holds in the game includes appearing in ten consecutive Grand Slam Finals between 2005 and 2007. He won eight of them losing only in the French Open on clay against his greatest rival Rafael Nadal.
Many of his peers believe him to be the greatest tennis player ever and maybe he will prove them all correct, but in the cold light of day, one has to examine Federer’s year in 2008. By most peoples standards they would have been in seventh heaven if they had achieved what Federer has done this year, but they are not Roger Federer and it is obvious that he is not pleased with his form. In fact he has only won one fairly obscure single’s title this year and that after his opponent, Nikolay Davydenko, retired injured. His year started off badly, when a huge favourite to win the Australian Open for the fourth consecutive time, he was knocked out in the semi finals by a blistering performance from World Number three, Novak Djokovic, who of course went on to win his first Grand Slam. He has been beaten twice in clay court finals by Rafael Nadal. US Open Free Bet.
Federer has a great sense of tradition and he will be aware of US Open history so his fans and tennis followers will know that he will not lie down without a very serious fight. He already holds the post 1968 record of four consecutive Titles and would join Jimmy Connors and Pete Sampras if he were to win it for a fifth time.
